I did read recently that Ivanhoe I think have some kind of new process that for want of a better phrase, seeks to squeeze more juice out of the lemon. Where the Juice in this case means copper.
Ivanhoe are working very hard to get the whole regional operation up and running. One of the reasons we're bullish on the train... but not sure they will be building a new mine anytime soon 😅
Sadly The West is going to be subsidizing the infrastructure while China will ship the minerals and resources to it's refineries to ship it to The West, brilliant move by us, smh
Rare Earth Metals, OPEC oil industries, EV batteries etc. endless examples. It's easy to foretell, structural changes in the economy make it so the was have offshore energy intense industries and processes only to import the finish product. A better illustration of this situation is to look at the emission when accounting for trade. You will find that The West is the greatest carbon offender.
And ever bigger problem is find power for new projects. Zambia already has a major power deficit due to low rainfall last wet season, DRC largely runs on diesel as very little supply on the grid. South Africa has no spare capacity.
